Self-interest and politics in Texas suckle one another like a parasite with its host; the demise of the host of no consequence to the parasite until it is too late. There could not be more evidence to that reality than Congressman Joe Barton’s apology fiasco combined with fellow Texas Congressman and energy committee member Michael Burgess’ heartfelt support and understanding. Parasitic self-interest trumps all. The context of Barton’s comment-apology should be no surprise; it is in sync with what he really believes and how he votes.
Further, under the misnomer "pro-business", Barton's words echo an established an long held Republican position. A philosophic dogma that a corporation’s prerogative to “drill-baby-drill”, or whatever else it may do in the quest for profit is and always should be unquestionable and omnipotent. Both Texas Congressmen Joe Barton and Michael Burgess represent what is wrong with politics in general and in Texas specifically. A vote for either of them is a vote against the interest of people in general.
